Description: For birding, Grand Teton National Park is, well, grand. Oxbow Bend is no exception! This is a great stop for some quick birding, so make sure to look and listen for a few moments while stretching your legs. Arrive early in the morning for optimal viewing of wildlife (and because most tourists are not awake). Listen for Willow Flycatcher in appropriate habitat, and watch for "swanlings" during nesting season. Some people call them cygnets (baby swans), but we are pushing to change the name to something more adorable! Floating this area in a kayak is the ideal way to experience the oxbow. You can rent boats at various nearby locations.
Now, I will not guarantee this next statement, but you will want to give heed. Heed me? Just do some heeding on this next sentence. Great Gray Owl is a POSSIBILITY here. Hang around as the sun begins to sink, and watch the wetland edge (especially where it meets coniferous areas). We do not share nesting sites for most owl species here at Flocking Around, so you will have to find those the old-fashioned way!
